After Your Laser Ablation / Phlebectomy Procedure
Discharge Instructions

Once you are home, after your procedure you should walk for 20 minutes. Keep Active.

Keep your leg elevated (above your heart) when sitting for the first 24 hours.

Do not drive for 24 hours after your procedure.

There are no diet restrictions.

The day of the procedure, you may return to normal daily activities with the following restriction. No heavy lifting or aerobic activity for one week.

After the procedure you will be put into either your compressive stocking or a compressive dressing.
- If you are put into your compressive stocking it is to be worn 24 hours a day for the first seven days. DO NOT REMOVE DRESSING or your stocking.
- If you have a compression dressing put on your leg, it should be worn for 48 hours. Then remove all dressing except for the steri-strips (small white tape strips) and put your compressive stocking on. You should wear your compressive stocking for 24 hours a day for the next five days.

After the first week you will need to wear your compressive stocking for five more additional weeks during your waking hours only.

You may shower beginning 24 hours after your procedure. No tub bath until after your follow-up visit in the office, one week later.
Do not remove your stocking or the compressive dressing. You will need to put a bag over your leg to prevent the dressing or stocking from getting wet. -
Bruising is normal. You may feel a “pulling sensation” and / or leg discomfort for the first week after the procedure.

Pain medication:
- You may take 800mg of Motrin or Advil every 8 hours, as needed for pain and swelling.

Make a follow-up appointment for one week after the procedure.
