Dr. Lyons is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology and is the section chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology at St. John Hospital and Medical Center. He graduated from Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia. He completed his Pediatric residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami School of Medicine, Miami, Florida and a fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Children?s Hospital, State University of New York in Buffalo, New York. Dr. Lyons is an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Wayne State University School of Medicine In Detroit. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition.
He has clinical experience with the diagnosis and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, chronic diarrhea, chronic constipation, inflammatory bowel disease, recurrent abdominal pain, peptic ulcer disease, pancreatitis, malabsorption syndrome, chronic hepatitis, liver failure and intestinal polyposis syndromes.
He performs esophagogastroduodenoscopy with biopsy, full colonoscopy with biopsy, flexible sigmoidoscopy with biopsy, polypectomy, liver biopsy, pH probe monitoring of the esophagus, lactose breath hydrogent test, sclerotherapy, esophageal variceal banding, esophageal manometry and rectal suction biopsy.
Dr. Lyons was named one of the area's top pediatric gastrointestinal specialists by Hour Detroit magazine in its 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Top Doc survey.
