My sincere thanks are extended to you for the excellent surgical work that you performed to repair the abdominal hernia for me.  Your selection and use of unequaled tactics assured a painless and speedy recovery.  This procedure was the fourth hernia repair for me, and from my perspective, the ease in which it was initiated and completed is incomparable to either of the other surgeries during my 66 years.

The two compelling factors leading to this letter are to, first and by far, recognize your superior surgical and medical talents, and secondly to compliment you on the warm and concerned relationship that you established with me beginning with the office visit, carrying on to the pre-op meeting at the hospital on surgery day, and finally during the postoperative visit.  The interest shown in me as a person is new because I have never experienced such from my doctor or physician.  Your level of interest extended beyond the doctor/patient relationship directly to the person, and this major difference in the approach to the patient is directly attributable to your outstanding personality and the level of interest in your patients.  This was so apparent each time we talked before and after the procedure.

The most up-to-date techniques that were employed as a part of the procedure are in my opinion, unequalled in today’s surgical practices.  I believe this can be attributed to your dedication to what is needed to remain abreast of the most modern medical and surgical techniques, such as the laparoscopic approach, selection of proper anesthetics for the specific procedure, and finally the application of surgical glue in lieu of conventional stitching.  Each of the above contributed to a stress-free and painless surgery.

It has been my good fortune to have the privilege to know you and to have the opportunity to have you as my doctor.  Don’t get me wrong, I do not expect to see you again; however, should there be a need, be assured that I will come calling without considering anyone else.

Thank you so much for being my surgeon, you have restored my faith in doctors and for that I am grateful.  You gained my trust, performed exceptional surgery, communicated and showed total professionalism throughout the entire process.  You took the time to explain everything to my husband and I, and answered every question without hesitation, making it much easier on both of us to understand and go through these uncharted waters.

My hope is that someday you will focus on training others, interns, to understand the human side of patients like you do, and help them check their egos at the door and be composed and confident like you are.  There is so much arrogance in the medical field, yet you never demonstrated that unpleasant characteristic.  You seemed to always put the patient first and I want you to know that we truly appreciated it.
