Welcome to St. John Children's Center Pediatric Nephrology
St John Pediatric Nephrology service offers both inpatient and outpatient consultations.
Inpatient consults are provided for problems related to kidney, fluid and electrolytes, hypertension, urinary tract infections, fetal/neonatal hydronephrosis and cystic kidney disease. Percutaneous kidney biopsy and acute periotneal dialysis are available. Acute hemodialysis is available for adolescents and is provided in conjunction with adult nephrology hemodialysis unit. Nephrology fellows and seniors pediatric residents rotate through this clinic.
A weekly all day clinic is held for outpatient consultation and inpatient follow-ups. Detailed urinalysis and careful evaluation of urine sediment is provided in the clinic as well as management for patients with the following conditions:

Hematuria, proteinuria, glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and renal failure

Hypertension

Lupus, HSP, and other vasculitis

Acid-base and electrolyte disorders

Recurrent urinary tract infections, pyelonephritis, and vesico-ureteral reflux

Cystic kidney disease and familial nephropathies

Medical evaluation and management of nephro-urolithiasis

Stage I-IV chronic kidney disease

Interpretation of the readings obtained from 24 hour ambultory blood pressure monitoring
At this time we do not offer chronic dialysis or Stage V chronic kidney disease management.
