What is Internal Medicine?
Internal Medicine is the general medical care of adults, both male and female, typically from the age of eighteen until the end of life. Internists function as both primary care physicians and specialists in the care of adults. They treat acute and chronic medical problems, provide preventive medical care through general physicals and health screening, and coordinate care among other medical specialists.
Is Internal Medicine the same as Family Practice?
No. Although both specialties provide primary care, Internists care for adult medical patients only, whereas Family Practice also care for pediatric and obstetric patients.
